With her brilliant mind, persistent, hard-working, open-minded personality and consistent, progressive, innovative ideas, Nina Angelovska manages to leave a positive mark and become recognizable in our society as a successful woman and entrepreneur, holding significant positions as a president of the Macedonian E-commerce Association, an International Business Development Executive at Ananas E-commerce, former CEO of the Macedonian e-commerce start-up Grouper and former Minister of Finance of N. Macedonia. She has spoken at more than 300 conferences and events striving to infuse passion and awaken the potential of many young people who are willing to follow her path and become successful entrepreneurs.
After graduating as a student of the year in 2011 and winning a national business plan competition, Ms. Angelovska uses the small grant awarded to her to start a business (together with Martin Kitanovski and Aleksandar Simonovski) - the e-commerce start-up Grouper. Continually introducing new options to adapt to new circumstances and trends, the company has grown throughout the years and managed to transform the e-commerce market in the country, educating thousands of customers and businesses on how to shop and sell online and increasing the online sales by more than 350%. Throughout the years Grouper has developed into a competitive company with great potential, resources and expertise, working with 3000 merchants and over 270000 users. After 10 years of heading and growing it, in 2021, Ms. Angelovska made a successful exit when the Polish payment company Payten, part of the Asseco SEE Group - one of the biggest banking and payment operators in SEE - acquired her company.
However, few years before that, after defending her doctoral dissertation, she followed her passion for e-commerce and digital transformation and established the first Macedonian E-commerce Association in 2017. A year later, in 2018, she spent a month in Coleman Entrepreneurship Center at DePaul University, as a fellow of the Tech Innovation and Entrepreneurship Professional Fellows Program administered by WorldChicago and sponsored by the US Department of State, and in 2019 she was appointed a Minister of Finance of North Macedonia. The position in the Government gave her an opportunity to make a change inside the country’s system. “The private sector is where the magic happens, where value is being created… and the public sector, in a great deal, is responsible for creating an enabling environment for the magic to happen and greater value to be created. It should make life easier for business people on one hand and through policies to stimulate and foster growth so the true potential can be unlocked” says Angelovska. Among the key priorities during her mandate as a Minister of Finance were digitalization and technological development of the country. Three digital tools were launched at the time that greatly increased the transparency – OpenFinance (opening the treasury to the public), Public Debt (opening and presenting data on borrowings, repayments, Eurobonds), and Capital Expenditures (data on execution by budget user monthly). In addition, Angelovska led the implementation of many economic and fiscal measures during the biggest crisis in history caused by COVID-19 until September 2020.
In 2018 she was named “Forbes 30 Under 30” in Retail and Ecommerce in Europe and in September 2019 at the UN General Assembly she was recognized by UNCTAD as one of seven global eTrade for Women Advocates, successfully promoting the participation of women in the policymaking process of e-commerce reforms. She is also a member of several Boards including the Macedonian Economic Chamber and the European Ecommerce and Omnichannel Trade Association (EMOTA). Currently, she is a member of the Board of Directors at Makedonski Telekom.
Recently she joined Ananas E-commerce, part of Delta Holding, whose mission is to become the ‘Amazon of the Balkans’ and bring a new online shopping experience in the region similar to the one in developed markets. Angelovska is determined to continue striving towards changing e-commerce not only in North Macedonia but in the region as well.
